THE PHONES

Sony Ericcson t610 / t616 / t637 (AT&T, T-Mobile, Cingular)

Problem: How do I send messages on my t610?
Solution: How about a step-by-step walk through?
1 Push center joystick to access the main menu
2 Select "messages"
3 Select "text"
4 Select "write new"
5 Type your message (e.g. "721 Broadway", etc..)
6 When finished typing hit upper select button "continue"
7 Select SMS type, choose 'Email'
8 "Email subject" comes up, leave blank and hit the upper left button to "continue" (note: older models of this phone don't have this step)
9 "Email" comes up. (type in "nyc@mobotag.com") or (hit "lookup" button to find the email stored in your address book)
10 Click continue to send.

Problem: My phone can't send text messages to an email address (T-Mobile only)
Solution: There are two ways around this: (1) Instead of sending "text messages" to nyc@mobotag.com, send a "picture message" to the same address or (2) reply to a message that mobotag has already sent you. (A lot of our users always keep a message from mobotag in their inbox that they can reply to.) If you are logged in, you can tell mobotag to send a message to your phone by clicking here.

Problem: When I send a message I see a "Mail Gateway Error." (AT&T only)
Solution: You'll see this message if you try to reply to one of the messages we've sent you. To use mobotag from your T610 with AT&T, you can not reply to messages, instead you have to create a new email message each time.

Problem: I can't add "nyc@mobotag.com" to my address book.
Solution:: Go to your inbox and find a message that mobotag already sent you and try to "add address".

Problem: When I add "nyc@mobotag.com" to my address book (see above) it gets saved as a bunch of random numbers, and not "nyc@mobotag.com".
Solution:: This looks like a T-Mobile bug. We're not sure how to fix it.

Sidekick (T-Mobile)
Problem: How do I send messages on my sidekick? Email or SMS?
Solution: To use mobotag with your Sidekick, send messages using the email application (your @tmail account, not the SMS application). Also, make sure to put the address of your location in the body of the message (and not in the "subject:" field).

Problem: I never get any messages back from mobotag. Not even the confirmation message.
Solution: Since your Sidekick is really good at email, you sign up for an email address when you buy one. Your Sidekick email address probably looks something like "jenny@tmail.com". If this is the case, you need to set "jenny" as your "alternate email handle".

Blackberry (T-mobile)

Problem: Everytime I send a message, I get a "This device is not supported" message.
Solution: Ah, you'll see this error if you use a device (Blackberry, Treo, Windows Mobile, Sidekick) that allows you to send / receive messages from your "real world' email address (e.g. jenny@gmail.com).

If that sounds like you, try sending from your alternate handle address. such as "jenny@tmail.com".

Nokia 3650 (AT&T and T-Mobile)

Problem: My phone can't send text messages to an email address. (T-Mobile only)
Solution: Okay, so go: Messages -> New Message -> Text Message and enter "500" in the "To:" field. In the body of the message put "nyc@mobotag.com location address " (etc.). Sounds crazy, but that should do it.

Problem: My phone can't send text messages to an email address. (AT&T only)
Solution:Okay, so go: Messages -> New Message -> Text Message and enter "00000" in the "To:" field. In the body of the message put "nyc@mobotag.com location address " (etc.). Sounds crazy, but that should do it.

Nokia 3100 (Cingular)

Problem: How do I send messages on my Nokia 3100?
Solution:How about a step-by-step walk through?

2 Select "Text Messages"
3 Select "Create SMS email"
4 Enter email address (nyc@mobotag.com) (or select "Find" and grab the address from your Contacts)
5 Leave Subject blank
6 Enter message (e.g. "721 Broadway ")
7 Select "Send email"
8 Enter email server number: 121

4 Select "Create SMS email"
5 Enter "email address" (e.g. @mobotag.com) (Hint: Add this address to your "Contacts. Then you can just select "Find" and then "Select" the correct entry)
6 Click "OK"
7 Leave the "Subject" field blank
8 Click "OK"
9 Type your message (e.g. "721 Broadway ")
10 Click "Send"
11 Enter email server number: 00000
12 Click "OK"
Problem: When I send a message I see a "Mail Server Error". (AT&T)
Solution: Ah, if you're seeing this, try sending a "Multimedia Message" to instead of "Text Messages".

Sony Ericcson t618i (AT&T and T-Mobile)

Motorola V66 (Verizon)

Problem: My phone can't send text messages to an email address.
Solution:The only way around this is to reply to a message that mobotag has already sent you. (A lot of our users always keep a message from mobotag in their inbox that they can reply to.) If you are logged in, you can tell mobotag to send a message to your phone by clicking here.

Hint: Instead of always keeping the email in your inbox, add it to your address book! (This definitely works on the V66.)

Motorola MXp200 (Microsoft SmartPhone, AT7T)

Problem: Every time I send a message, I get a "This device is not supported" message.
Solution:Ah, you'll see this error if you use a device (Blackberry, Treo, Windows Mobile, Sidekick) that allows you to send / receive messages from your "real world' email address (e.g. jenny@gmail.com).

If that sounds like you, try sending from your alternate handle address. such as "jenny@sprintpcs.com".

Motorola v70 (T-Mobile)

Problem: I am getting a photo message from mobotag every hour. Make it stop!

Solution: Ugh, this sucks, but it's a T-Mobile thing, not a mobotag thing. What's happening is that mobotag sends the message out once, your phone gets it, but never tells the T-Mobile that it got the message. T-Mobile thinks you never got the message, so it keeps trying to resend it. And it'll keep trying... for 72 hours (when T-Mobile will just give up on trying to send it to you).

The only way to make this stop is to take the SIM card out of the back of the phone and put it into another T-mobile phone that can receive the message.

If this happens to you call email us and then call T-Mobile and tell them that their phones are f'ed up and ask that they take the charges off your bill. Sorry for the drama.

Samsung A500 (Sprint)

We're looking for people who have figured out how to get mobotag to work with these phones. If you figured it out, drop us an email. Thanks!
