Oliver Ressler’s contribution to A.K.A. EDUCATION – Art Known as Education is part of axis # 2: Citizenship, Community and Art Education and will be a discussion of the alter-globalization movement along the path of some of the projects he has worked on in the last couple of years. Two of his collaborative films will be screened during the lecture “Disobbedienti” (with Dario Azellini), 54 mins and “What Would It Mean to Win?” (with Zanny Begg), 40 mins.

Through his work Ressler outlines different strategies to intervene with art in political movements. Among his many projects, he produced a video on the hour-long encirclement of demonstrators by the police at a demonstration against the World Economic Forum in 2001 in Salzburg, and one on the Italian social activist movement “Disobbedienti” (with Dario Azellini).

“What Would It Mean To Win?” (with Zanny Begg) was filmed on the blockades at the G8 summit in Heiligendamm, Germany in June 2007 and focuses on the current state of the alter-globalization movement. Ressler created banners for demonstrations (with David Thorne) and was involved in the self-organized collaborative art project Holy Damn It, that produced 50.000 posters to mobilize for the resistance movements against the G8 summit in Heiligendamm.

Oliver Ressler (born 1970 in Austria) produces exhibitions, projects in the public space and videos which try to blur the boundaries between art and activism. His projects have been exhibited in solo-exhibitions at the Berkeley Art Museum; Platform Garanti Contemporary Art Center, Istanbul; Museum of Contemporary Art Belgrade; Kunstraum der Universität Lüneburg, D and Centro Cultural Conde Duque, Madrid. Ressler participated in group exhibitions at the MASS MoCA – Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, USA; Itaucultural Institute, Sao Paulo; ZKM, Karlsruhe; Museum voor Moderne Kunst Arnhem, NL; International Festival of Video/Arte/Electrónica, Lima; and in the biennials in Prague, 2005; Seville, 2006; Moscow, 2007 and Taipei, 2008. His ongoing project “Alternative Economics, Alternative Societies” was produced in 21 cities around the world and published as a book by the Wyspa Institute of Art, Gdansk in 2007. Ressler is currently preparing the 8-channel video installation “What Is Democracy?”.

محاضرة وعرض افلام للفنان “أوليفر رسلر” فى منتدى الاسكندرية للفنون المعاصرة (آكاف)
“حركة مناهضة العولمة – تدخلات بالفن فى الحركات السياسية”

يساهم “أوليفر رسلر” فى برنامج “الفن كمنظومة تعليمية؟” فى سياق المحور الثانى، بعنوان “المواطنة والمجتمع وتعليم الفن”، حيث يقوم بمناقشة حركة مناهضة العولمة من خلال عرض بعض المشروعات التى عمل فيها خلال العامين الماضيين. وسيعرض خلال المحاضرة فيلمان هما “رفض الانصياع” (اخرجه رسلر مع داريو ازيللينى) ومدته 54 دقيقة و “ما معنى أن ينتصر المرء؟” (أخرجه رسلر مع ذانى بيج) ومدته 40 دقيقة.

فى سياق عمله يقوم رسلر برسم استراتيجيات مختلفة للتدخل بالفن فى الحركات السياسية. ومن ضمن مشاريعه المتعددة هناك فيلم يتناول قيام الشرطة بمحاصرة المتظاهرين ضد المنتدى الاقتصادى العالمى لمدة ساعة فى سالزبورج فى 2001، وآخر حول الحركة الاجتماعية للناشطين الايطاليين “رفض الانصياع” (مع داريو أزيللنى).

“ما معنى أن ينتصر المرء؟” (مع ذانى بيج) هو فيلم تم تصويره من داخل حلقة الحصار المضروبة حول قمة الثمانية فى هايلجيندام فى ألمانيا فى يونيو 2007 ويركز على الحالة الحالية لحركة مناهضة العولمة. قام رسلر بتصميم اعلام للمتظاهرين (مع دافيد ثورن) واشترك فى مشروع الفن التعاونى التلقائى التنظيم “هولى داميت” والذى قام بانتاج 50،000 ملصق حائطى فى سياق تعبئة حركات المقاومة فى مواجهة قمة الثمانية فى هايلجيندام.

يقوم أوليفر رسلر (المولود فى النمسا عام 1970) بانتاج معارض ومشاريع فى المساحات العامة واخراج فيديوهات تحاول أن تعبر الحاجز بين الفن وحركات الناشطين. وقد عرضت مشروعاته فى معارض فردية فى متحف بيركلى للفنون ومركز منصة جارانتى للفن المعاصر ومتحف الفن المعاصر فى بلجراد ومعرض جامعة لونبيرج ومركز كوندى دوك الثقافى فى مدريد. كما شارك الفنان فى معارض جماعية فى متحف ماساتشوستس للفن الحديث والمعهد الثقافى فى ساو باولو ومتحف كارلسروه ومتحف الفن المعاصر فى ارنيهم والمهرجان العالمى للفيديو والفن الالكترونى فى ليما ومعارض بيينالى فى براغ 2005 واشبيليه 2006 وموسكو 2007 وتايبيه 2008. وله مشروع مستمر بعنوان “اقتصاديات بديلة، مجتمعات بديلة” تم انتاجه فى 21 مدينة حول العالم وصدر فى شكل كتاب عن معهد ويسبا للفنون فى جدانسك عام 2007. يقوم رسلر حاليا باعداد تجهيز فيديو بثمانى قنوات تحت عنوان “ما هى الديمقراطية”. الموقع الالكترونى: www.ressler.at
